The 2000 Guineas is one of five Classic horse races held throughout the year which are great fun to place a bet on! Like the 1000 Guineas, the 2000 Guineas takes place on the Rowley Mile in Newmaket and it usually falls towards the end of April or towards the beginning of May.

The first ever 2000 Guineas took place in 1909 and it was launched by The Jockey Club. Interestingly, a special commendation called a 'Triple Crown' is achievable by a horse who manages to win the 2000 and 1000 Guineas and the St. Leger Stakes which are seen as a triumvirate of similar races. So, far there have been fifteen horses which have managed that momentous feat. The last horse to achieve a 'Triple Crown' by winning all three races was a horse called Nijinsky in 1970.

Just as it is with the other Classics, the 2000 Guineas has inspired many races in other countries such as the Irish 2000 Guineas and the Premio Parioli in Italy. Some trial races such as the Craven stakes take place on a yearly basis in April, however, a lot of the horses which run the 2000 Guineas haven't seen another professional race since the previous year.
