:: Floorball Betting
Floorball is a game of indoor floor hockey (a type of hockey played on flat floor surfaces) that was developed in the 1970's. It is fast paced with limited contact and is very popular in the Czech Republic, Finland, Switzerland and Sweden. It is also known by many other names, such as Salibandy (in Finland), Innebandy (in Sweden and Norway) and Unihockey (in Switzerland).

A game of floorball is divided into three twenty minute periods. Each team fields six players at a time, one of which is a goalkeeper. Checking is not allowed; the best comparison is with soccer, in which one can use the body in order to improve positioning with relation to the ball but not to impede or stop an opposing player. Otherwise, the game is based on standard hockey rules - get the ball into the net with the stick! The game is extremely quick; there have been several instances where a ball has been recorded at a speed of approximately 190 km/h.

Major Floorball events include the World Floorball Championships, for women and men, held every two years; the Asia Pacific Floorball Championship in Australia or Singapore; the Canada Cup and the European Cup. There are of course also numerous national leagues.

Betting markets are fairly standard and include 3 way (win, lose, or draw); 2-way handicap (in which the draw option is removed); and totals (with bets as to how many goals will be scored). Punters who are familiar with ice hockey should have little trouble adapting to Floorball.
