Ligue 2 is the second division of France's football league. It has 20 teams that play each other twice (home and away) each season. At the end of the season, the top three clubs in Ligue 2 are promoted to Le Championnat (Ligue 1), with the bottom three clubs in Ligue 1 taking their places in Ligue 2. The bottom three clubs in Ligue 2 are relegated to the semi-professional Championnat National, with the top three teams from that division taking their place in Ligue 2.
