Futsal is a mostly indoor variant of Association Football. The game originated in Uruguay around 1930 but spread across South America and then quickly to the rest of the world; the name is derived from the Portuguese 'futebol de salão', literally meaning 'hall football'. FIFA took over the World Championships in 1989 and the sport has been steadily growing in popularity ever since.

Unlike standard football, there are 5 players on each side, one of which is the goalkeeper. The game is played on a wood or artificial pitch. The ball is both smaller and offers less bounce than a traditional football. The rules are designed to emphasise and encourage creative play and improvisation in addition to close control of the ball control and passing within confined spaces. It is a very fast-paced game!

The main event in the Futsal calendar is the FIFA Futsal World Cup, which takes place every four years and has been dominated by Brazil and Spain since it began. However, there are numerous other international Futsal events, including the UEFA Futsal Cup and the Liga Futsal. There are also numerous continental and national leagues.

Betting on Futsal is very similar to betting on standard football. Standard three-way bets (win, lose or draw), totals (how many goals scored) and numerous other markets are available. One thing to bear in mind is that in Futsal, goals are scored at a much higher rate than in standard football – so it might be a good idea to set your totals higher and also to expect greater odds on draws.
