:: Gaelic Sports Betting
When most people think of Gaelic sports they think of hurling and Gaelic football, both two of the most popular spectator sports in Ireland. In Gaelic football, which lies somewhere in between rugby and standard football, the object is to get the ball through the opposing team's goal by kicking or striking the ball with the hand; shoulder to shoulder contact is permitted. In hurling, which is similar to hockey and lacrosse, with a good deal of physical brutality thrown in, players use wooden sticks to get the ball over the net and between the goalposts (worth one point) or to get the ball past the goalkeeper and in the net (worth three points). Both games are fairly simple and great fun to watch. These are not the only Gaelic sports, however. In Scotland, a variation of hurling called shinty is popular; there is also a woman's version of hurling called Camogie. Handball is also a popular sport; it is very similar to squash, but played without the rackets – the aim of the game is to score a set total of points before your opponent does.

Betting on hurling, Gaelic football or other Gaelic team games could not be easier as the markets are much the same as the standard football or rugby markets. Handball betting is also fairly self-explanatory, though it might be a little harder to find a bookmaker to offer you odds on it. Major events in the hurling and football calendar include the All-Ireland Hurling Championship, the All-Ireland Football Championship and the numerous smaller club and provincial championships. The governing body for all these sports is the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).
